Arnold Hansford Armstrong, age 79, of Fort Smith, Arkansas, passed away in his home on February 2, 2026.
Arnold was born on June 5, 1946, in Ellisville, Mississippi, to Charles Gilbert Armstrong and Faye Marie Walker Armstrong, both of whom preceded him in death. He was raised with strong values that shaped the man he became: honest, dependable, and deeply devoted to his family.
He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Arnold attended Westark Community College and went on to build a long and steady career as an Erosion Technician with AOG, where he worked for 20 years before retiring.
Above all else, Arnold loved his family. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and those closest to him knew him as the very best dad and papaw. He had a great sense of humor, a kind heart, and a way of making those around him feel at ease. His presence made life better, and his absence will be deeply felt. His family will remember the great influence he had on them and how they have all become better people by having him in their lives.
Arnold is survived by his three children, Kenneth Armstrong, Karen Burnett, and Kimberly Brooks; nine grandchildren, Christopher, Savanna, Joseph, Rily, Tyler, Alex, Peyton, Cody, and Devin; and two great-grandchildren, Milo and Mila. He is also survived by his siblings, Larry Tomlin and Walter Armstrong.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Bobby, Charles, and Harold.
A visitation will be held Monday, February 9, 2026, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Lewis Funeral Home. The graveside service will take place on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be family members. Services are under the care of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
