Barbara Jean (Curle) Smith

Barbara Jean Smith, age 92, of Pocola, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2025.

Barbara was born on August 6, 1932, in Bon Aqua, Tennessee, to Viola Martin and L.B. Curle. She married her beloved husband, Harry C. Smith Jr., on November 11, 1951, sharing many cherished years until his passing.
Barbara worked at Sears from 1964 to 2018, retiring at age 85. Throughout her life, she was known for her strong work ethic and dedication to her family and community. She was a proud member of the Fort Smith Scottish Club and a devoted member of the Westark Church of Christ and Park Hill Church of Christ.

Barbara's passions included gardening, canning, sewing, traveling, and quilting, and she found joy in her quilting group. She will be remembered as a kind and hardworking woman, a devoted child of God, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.

Barbara is survived by her children, Patricia Spradley (Jay) and Dr. Vernon Curtis Smith; three grandchildren, Marc Allison (Stephanie), Jeffery Allison, and Alex Smith (Dani); and three step-grandchildren, Becca Freeman (Randy), Lisa Stone (Zach), and Miles Spradley. She also leaves behind eleven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, as well as her brother, Sammy Curle of Fairview, Tennessee, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, L.B. and Viola Curle; her husband, Harry C. Smith Jr.; her grandson, Cole Crippen; and her siblings, Lu Kell, J.M. Curle, Okie Curle, and Frances Moss, as well as her son-in-law, David Allison.

A memorial Visitation will be held in her honor at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Lewis Funeral Chapel, with an internment to follow at the Fort Smith National Cemetery.
