Billy Wayne Hunter Sr., age 77 of Alma, Arkansas passed away September 5, 2024. Bill was born on March 26, 1947, in Kibler, Arkansas to parents Virgil Aubrey Hunter and Lela Foster Hunter. Bill was united in marriage on December 17, 1964, with Norma “Sissy” Reynolds, and they enjoyed 59 years of marriage. Bill worked for the city of Fort Smith for 12 years, before working for Foye Brown Construction for many years. Bill then became self employed at Hunter Salvage for 30 years. He went on to work for Hightower Construction for 7 years, the job he was most passionate about. Thank you, Dale.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Mille Parker and Delvina “Squeaky” Hamilton, one brother: Jerry Hunter, and one granddaughter: Amber Arnold. He is survived by his wife Norma “Sissy” Hunter of the home; children Billy Hunter and wife Nancy of Alma, Donna Hunter of Alma, Virgil “Bosco” Hunter and wife Lora of Alma; sisters Shirley Mason of Van Buren and Jeanette Kozel of Dora; grandchildren Chuck Sims, Misty Hunter, Brandon Hunter, Jeremy Hughes, Zane Hunter, and Ethan Hunter; eight great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Bill had a love for fast cars and family. He was one of the most well-known and talented racecar drivers at local short tracks, where he won numerous championships since the mid 1960’s. He was a fan-favorite driver who drew crowds to his races and started the iconic “1/4”. His racing blood ran deep through the Hunter family including his children, grandchildren, and great[1]grandchildren. The love he had for his family was like no other. Whether at the racetrack, the shop, or a birthday party, Bill was sure to be involved in all aspects of his family’s lives.
