Bruce Sanders Sr. Obituary

Bruce Kane Sanders Sr. age 80, passed away on May 13, 2026, at his home in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was born on March 29, 1946, to Clinton Neal (Johnson) and Charles Lewis Sanders.

Bruce honorably served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, earning three Bronze Stars for his service and dedication. Following his military service, he worked throughout his life in a variety of professions, including with Harding Glass, Vick’s Men’s Store, Baldor, and the Arkansas Highway Department. His strong work ethic and commitment to providing for his family were evident in everything he did.

On June 12, 1990, Bruce married the love of his life, Linda G. (Stevenson) Sanders, in Russellville, Arkansas. Together they shared many years of love, companionship, and cherished memories.

In his free time, Bruce enjoyed music, acting, football, basketball, swimming, and boxing. He had a deep appreciation for life and the simple joys that brought people together. Above all else, Bruce loved his family dearly. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose love, strength, and presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Bruce is survived by his loving wife, Linda G. Sanders; his seven children, LaSonia Frost and husband Tommy, Karen Whitmore, Jamela Sanders, Andre Sanders, Askia Kip Muhammad and wife Qiana, Hamid Phillips, and Bruce Kane Sanders Jr.; two step-children, Marty Woody and Raymond Woody; seventeen grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; a sister, Veronica Selmon; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

Bruce is preceded in passing by his beloved parents, Clinton Neal (Johnson) and Charles Lewis Sanders; a son, Byron Keith Sanders; as well as several brothers and sisters, Rose, Midge, John, Mike, Andre, Clineta, Charles, Charlene, Tucker, and Waldo.

There will be a graveside service at 11:00a.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2026 at the Fort Smith National Cemetery.
