Connye Marie (Oglesby) Sanders

Connye Marie Sanders (Oglesby), of Fort Smith, Arkansas, passed away on March 23, 2026, at the age of 70.

Born in Houston, Texas, Connye built a life centered around love, family, and faith. She was a devoted and selfless wife, mother, sister, and grandmother who poured her heart into those she loved. To her family, she was not only a mother but also a best friend—someone who offered unwavering support, encouragement, and unconditional love.

Connye shared a beautiful life of 52 years with her husband, Riley Joe Sanders Jr. The two met during their sophomore year of high school, married shortly after graduation, and began building their family three years later—a testament to a lifelong love and commitment.

She is survived by her loving husband, Riley Joe Sanders Jr.; her son, Riley Joe Sanders III and his wife, Amanda Sanders, and their children, Carter and Samuel; and her daughter, Tara Lynn Carpenter and her husband, Brian Duley, along with Tara’s children, Justin, Shannon, Ashton, and Lauren. She also held dearly in her heart her granddaughter Elizabeth, who preceded her in death at birth.

Connye is also survived by her siblings, Cayelynn Harbers and her husband, Mike Harbers, and Larry Oglesby and his wife, Laurie Oglesby. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bud Oglesby and Jeanine Oglesby.

Nothing brought Connye more joy than her grandchildren. She lived for the moments that mattered most—being there when they came home from school, cheering them on at wrestling matches, archery events, and baseball games, and simply spending time together. Her presence was a constant source of comfort and love in their lives.

She made sure her children always knew how deeply she loved them and how proud she was of the people and parents they became. Through her example, she created a home filled with happiness, faith, and unconditional love—a legacy that will live on through her family.

Connye will be remembered for her kind heart, her selflessness, and the deep love she gave so freely. Her memory will forever be cherished by all who knew and loved her.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 25th. The location will be announced at a later time.
