Dennis Raymond Barley

Dennis Raymond Barley, age 79, Passed away peacefully Sunday, August 25th, 2024, at his home in Lavaca, Arkansas. Dennis was born March 9th, 1945, In Perth, Australia. He was the beloved son of Ray and Faye (Haron) Barley. Dennis married the love of his life and best friend Sheila (Jewell) Barley on March 28th, 1969, at Chapel Of The Bell, in Las Vegas, Nevada and  spent 55 love filled years together. They where members of Trinity Baptist church in Spokane, Washington, before they moved to Arkansas in retirement. Dennis spent his life in service to others, As a young man he spent a short time in the Air Force before transitioning to the Marine Corps where he spent 15 years as an artilleryman. For the final years of his service in the military he moved to the Army to serve a drill instructor. Dennis was also a proud Spokane Police Officer for 26 years. After years of serving his country he retired and began new hobbies, including woodworking, Building, and Outdoor model trains. Dennis was a master craftsman who could build almost anything. All that knew Dennis would say that he was a quite professional that would always listen carefully before formulating a well thought out answer to any situation he found himself in. But most of all, Dennis will be remembered for being a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather and a great example of a good man for all that knew him. Dennis is survived by his loving wife, Sheila (Jewell) Barley; one Son, Sean Barley; Two Grandchildren, Courtney Barley-Soffer and Husband Aaron, and Sean Alex Barley; and One Great-Grandchild, Siena Soffer. Dennis is Preceded in passing by his parents, Ray and Faye Barley; one sister, Ronda; and one brother, Steve. A visitation will be held 3pm to 5pm at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Lavaca, Arkansas, on Friday August 30th, 2024. A Graveside Memorial Service will be held at the U.S. National Cemetery at a later date. All services are under the thoughtful care of Lewis Funeral Chapel, located at 4817 Kelley Highway, in Fort Smith, Arkansas
