Dewey Jay Carrell Sr., age 80, passed away on March 30, 2026, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was born on September 8, 1945, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, to the late Earl Richard Carrell and Jane McGuire.
Dewey graduated from Central High School in Muskogee in 1966. He married the love of his life, Shirley Lois (Whitley) Carrell, and together they shared 56 wonderful years of marriage. The couple was united in marriage at the Muskogee Courthouse, beginning a lifetime of love and devotion.
Throughout his life, Dewey worked diligently as a general laborer, spending many years employed in various factories. Outside of work, he found joy in watching local race car events and cheering on his favorite W.W.E. wrestling matches. He and Shirley made many cherished memories camping and taking their children to amusement parks during their younger years.
A man of the Baptist faith, Dewey will be remembered as strong, kind-hearted, and full of life. He had a playful sense of humor and an outgoing personality that brought smiles to those around him. Even in recent years, as his health declined, he remained hardworking and resilient, never one to complain. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Dewey is survived by his devoted wife, Shirley Carrell; his children, Dewey Carrell Jr. and his wife, Margaret, and Tina Beneux and her husband, Robert; his grandchildren, William Bloom Jr., Zoe Carrell, and Tony Beneux; his great-grandchildren, Ryan, Rya, Ava, and Cade; his brother, Charles Daniel of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma; two sisters-in-law; and a host of extended family and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Jane Carrell; his siblings, Glen, Elsie, Donald, Jerry, and Omajean; and his sister-in-law, Margie.
Cremation is under the thoughtful direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
