Doris Jean Foster, affectionately known as Jean, age 72, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2026, at Ashton Place in Barling, Arkansas. She was born on May 11, 1953, to Harold Johnson and Josephine Ruth (Dunn) Johnson.
Jean graduated from Provine High School in Jackson, Mississippi in 1971 and continued her education at Westark Community College, where she earned her associate degree. A devoted member of the Episcopalian faith, she faithfully served St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church as a clerical administrator, dedicating her time and talents to her church community, and she also found great joy in singing in the church choir, where her beautiful voice uplifted all who heard it.
Jean was naturally outgoing and never met a stranger. She found great joy in cooking and often dreamed of one day opening a soup-themed restaurant to share her creations with others. In her quieter moments, she enjoyed needlepoint and embroidery, crafting thoughtful pieces that reflected her patience and creativity.
Above all, Jean will be remembered as a strong and independent woman whose greatest pride was her family. She was a loving and devoted mother and a cherished “Nee Nee,” whose warmth, care, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Jean is survived by her two children, Michael Foster and wife Amanda, Cindy Cook and husband Brian; four grandchildren, Dwayne Foster Jr., Ragon Cook, Caitlyn Cook, and Sarah Foster; one step-grandson, Austin Cook and his wife Whitney; one brother, William "Bill" Johnson and his wife Nuraeni; one niece, Josephine "Josie" Johnson; as well as longtime friends, Dora McDaniel, Liz Lloyd, and Jeffery and Betsy Champlin.
She is preceded in passing by her father, Harold Johnson; her mother, Josephine Ruth (Dunn) Johnson; and three brothers, Tom Johnson, John Johnson, and Bob Johnson.
Father Jeffery Champlin will officiate a memorial service to be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at St. John’s Episcopal Church of Fort Smith. Cremation is under the thoughtful direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
