EDNA JURLENE (HEYDENREICH) DOWDY “GRANNY”, 97, left this earthly
body to join her Savior and loved ones on April 26, 2025 while residing at her
daughter’s home in Roland, Oklahoma. She was born in Hackett (Center),
Arkansas on January 25, 1928 to Frederick Oswald and Lona Belle (Peoples)
Heydenreich.
She was preceded in death by her husband, WWII Veteran James Eugene
Dowdy, her parents, one daughter, Carolyn Jean (Dowdy) Davis of Roland,
one son, James David Dowdy of Roland, seven brothers and two sisters,
Henry Russell Heydenreich, George Haskell Heydenreich (killed in action
in WWII), Jessie Laverne (Vernie) Heydenreich, Triplets: Irene, Lorene,
and Odean Heydenreich, Paul Armadean Heydenreich, Twins: Raymond
Harold Heydenreich & Daymond Darrel Heydenreich.
She is survived by one daughter Valorie Kay (Dowdy) Albertson of Roland,
two Sons-In-Laws, which she cherished greatly, Glen Davis of Roland and
Carl Albertson of Roland, six grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and
six great-great grandchildren, one sister, Sylvia Ilene Webb of Greenwood,
Arkansas and many other family and friends.
She was a member of Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Roland for over 60
years serving in many capacities. Over the years, she worked at many jobs
including Roland Public Schools, Fort Smith Stockyards, Hunt’s Department
Store, and Fort Smith Packing Company. But, her most cherished calling was
making a home for her family and friends. No one ever left her home hungry.
A Home-Going celebration will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025 at 2:00 p.m., at
the Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Roland, Oklahoma with graveside services
follow at Zion Cemetery in Hackett, Arkansas. Visitation with family will
be held on Thursday May 1, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Zion Missionary Baptist
Church in Roland.
Pallbearers will be Steven Davis, Paul Davis, Jad Dowdy, Cody Davis, Cole
Davis, and Drake Davis. Funeral Services are under the thoughtful care of
Lewis Funeral Chapel.
