Hal Davis Obituary

Hal Wayne Davis, born July 21, 1948, died December 26th at his home near Hackett showing one of his friends how to craft a bow, something he loved to do. Hal lived his 76 years of life to the fullest, years filled with adventure, love, integrity, and honor.

Hal was proudest of his family and was a great father and grandfather. He is survived by one son, Jesse Davis of Bentonville; two daughters, Laura Riem of Memphis, TN, and Lesley Davis of Hackett; one stepson, Zach Bridges of Springdale; two grandsons, Jesiah Davis and Zane Davis, as well as extended family, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents Hal and Helen Davis of Fort Smith; two brothers, Robert and Jimmy Davis; and one sister, Nancy Nehring.

Hal was a Marine and a patriot in the truest sense of that word. He was squad leader, 1st Squad, 3rd Platoon, 1st Provisional Rifle Company. His service in the Marines shaped his life. He received the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry and Combat Action Ribbon.

Hal excelled at everything he attempted. He was infinitely curious.  He graduated from the University of Arkansas with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science, and graduated Suma Cum Laude from School of Law at the University of Arkansas. He was a fine lawyer, respected by the bench and bar and offered wise counsel to people he met in practice and in life. In addition to his successful solo practice, he partnered with James Cox in the Fort Smith firm Davis and Cox for almost 20 years.

A lifelong learner, he enjoyed travel around the country and the world, often on a motorcycle. He served on the Hackett School Board. He was a Mason, member of Amity Masonic Lodge 267 in Hackett. He embraced new hobbies such as bow-making. Most of all, he loved time with friends and family whether just watching baseball, or just telling stories. Hal was always looking for the next adventure.

The life of Hal Wayne Davis will be celebrated with full military honors in a ceremony at the Fort Smith National Cemetery on Thursday, January 2 at 2 p.m. Friends and family will gather at the farm following the ceremony.

In recognition of Hal’s concern for others, the family requests no gifts of flowers and suggests memorials to the VFW or charity of your choice.
