James Evert Treat Jr., age 86, of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, peacefully passed away on April 13, 2026.
Born on March 7, 1940, in Muldrow, Oklahoma, James was the son of James “Jimmy” Treat and LaFaye Shakelford Treat. He grew up in Muldrow and graduated from Muldrow High School.
In October of 1960, James married his beloved wife, Norma Ruth LaBass. Together, they built a strong and loving family, sharing many years of devotion until her passing. James worked faithfully for over 30 years at Baldor Electric, where he was known for his dedication and work ethic.
A man of deep faith, James was a devoted follower of Christ, cherishing time spent with his church community, especially when attending the men’s Bible study group at First Baptist Church and teaching Sunday School. James found peace and happiness in the outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing, and gardening, and had a deep appreciation for history and scripture. Above all, he treasured time with his family. James will be remembered as a loving Christian, a devoted husband, a proud father and grandfather, and a loyal friend to many.
He is survived by his three children: Michael Treat and wife Gaylynn, Lisa Bertie and husband Jim, and Melinda Treat; five grandchildren, Zac Treat, Meredith Conrad, Aaron & Lauren Bertie, and Jaxon Treat; and five great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Emma Treat, and Zander, Shepherd, and Sawyer Conrad. He is also survived by his siblings: Lacretia Howard, Tommy Treat, Gary Treat, and Karen Pinkerton, as well as 14 nieces and nephews and a host of extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Norma Treat, and his parents, Jimmy and LaFaye Treat.
