Jo Nell Thomas, our beloved Mommom
Jonell was born on August 30, 1952, and went home on March 31, 2026, she passed peacefully at the age of 73, surrounded by her family, in her home, with the people she loved most. And if there’s anything that captures who she was, it’s that she was always at the center of love, and she made sure everyone around her felt it.
Mommom was lighthearted in a way that lifted every room she entered. She had a spirit that made people feel at ease, a laugh that was contagious, and a presence that turned ordinary moments into something worth remembering. She was the life of the party not because she demanded attention, but because her joy naturally drew people in. She was also a nurturer at her core. She took care of people, not just in the big ways, but in the quiet, everyday moments that matter most. Whether it was through her words, her actions, or simply being there, she made people feel safe, seen, and loved.
As a teacher, she didn’t just share knowledge, she shared herself. She had a gift for guiding others, for encouraging growth, and for helping people believe in who they could become. That same care carried into her role as a mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her family was everything to her.
She is survived by her two sisters, Jeana and Carol; her three sons, Ike, Matt and wife Melissa, and Josh; her grandchildren Canaan, Aeriale, Hope, Silas, Faith, Madysun, Grace, Zeke, Elijah, River, Love, and Mercy; and her great-grandchildren, Rico and Kensington. That is a legacy. Not just in numbers, but in the lives she shaped, the love she gave, and the memories she leaves behind in each one of them.
Mommom’s life reminds us that the most important things aren’t material, they’re the connections we build, the kindness we show, and the love we give freely. She lived that every day.
While our hearts are heavy, we hold onto the promise of eternal life, that this is not goodbye, but see you again. One day, we will be reunited, and what a joyful reunion that will be.
Rest peacefully, Mommom. You were deeply loved, and you will never be forgotten.
