Joan Mae Schmidt

Joan Mae Schmidt, age 64, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2025. She was born on September 24, 1961, in Beaver, Oklahoma, to Jonah and Arteme (Fadenrecht) Schmidt.

Joan grew up in Oklahoma and graduated from high school in Idabel. She spent much of her working life as a dedicated housekeeper at Baptist Health. Joan was known for her kind heart and deep love for her family. She found joy in the simple things, working on puzzles, cheering on her favorite football teams, and spending time with those she loved. A faithful member of Central Christian Church, Joan’s love for Jesus was evident in how she lived her life. Her greatest pride and joy was her son, Jared, whom she cherished deeply.

Joan is survived by her beloved son, Jared Schmidt; her siblings, Elaine Titus, Loren Schmidt, Peggie Schmidt, Lowell Schmidt, Debbie Schmidt, Cheryl Schmidt, and Ted Phipps; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends, including her dear friend, Jane Hicks, who will miss her greatly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jonah and Arteme Schmidt, and her sister-in-law, Carole Schmidt.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at Central Christian Church in Fort Smith, officiated by Rev. Lowell Schmidt. Arrangements are under the care of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
