John Edward Wigley, age 76, passed away on Monday, November 4, 2024, at Baptist Health Hospital in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Born April 17, 1948, he was a beloved son of Francis Henry Wigley and Bertha Mae (Lovell) Wigley. John was a proud Veteran of the United States Military, having served our country in the Army during the early 70's. After his time in the Army, John became a member of the VFW, and he began his career as a maintenance technician at the Fifth Season Inn Hotel, as well as a dedicated employee of Midland Bowl in Fort Smith for many years. John loved playing music and going fishing. Among his many hobbies, he had a special interest in buying and selling antique cars. John could often be found browsing flea markets and yard sales around town, or attending antique car shows. He will be remembered as a devoted man of Pentecostal faith, who will be dearly missed by a host of his family, friends, and loved ones.
He is survived by his son, John Wigley-Brown III and friend Dennis Brown, and daughter, Lynda Ball of Muldrow, Oklahoma; his grandchildren: Alishia Best and spouse Bryon Best of Greenwood, Arkansas and Christina Cox of Alma, Arkansas; two great grandchildren, AnnaLeyah Myers and Drayven Cox of Alma; and the mother of his children, Norah Russell of Muldrow, Oklahoma; as well as many extended relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Bertha Wigely; his brother, Billy Frank Wigley; and his sister, Frances.
A Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith, Arkansas 72904. The Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 8, 2024, at the Fort Smith National Cemetery, located at 522 Garland Ave in Fort Smith, Arkansas 72901. Services are entrusted to Lewis Funeral Chapel.
