Larry Jones Obituary

Larry Jones, 82, of Fort Smith, Arkansas, passed away on July 26, 2024. Born in Oppelo, Arkansas on July 22, 1942, he was the beloved son of Wilburn Earnest Jones and Okla Mae Garner. Larry worked 43 years for the National Resources Conservation Service, and the last several years of his career as a construction inspector. A man of faith, Larry was a devoted member of Grace Methodist Church in Fort Smith. He greatly enjoyed maintaining his yard, and spending time in the outdoors. He hiked at many locations in Arkansas and across the globe, including mount Brandon in Ireland and slogging through the jungle in Peru. Larry was a past member of hiking clubs in Fort Smith and Little Rock, and led hikes on several occasions.  He was known as a man of few words, but those who knew him best found him to be humorous, sincere, kind, and described him as a “Solid Citizen”. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, W.E. and Okla Jones of Oppelo, Arkansas and several siblings.  He is survived by his daughter, Sally Pea and husband Tom of Indianapolis, and their daughter, Allison, as well as his son, Wayne Jones and wife Kandi, and their children, Maci, Grant, and McKenna. He is also survived by his siblings, Ronnie Jones, Karen Dixon, and Joan Holbrock of the Morrilton area; and Sherrye Wilkie of Jenks Oklahoma. He also leaves behind loved ones, Beverly Jones and her sons, Scott and Shane Stites of Fort Smith, Arkansas; grandchildren, Maddi, Matt, Mia and Madden Stites, Brooklyn Tonner and Malcolm Jackson; the Rickman family, Karen Stites of Plano, Texas; and the Madden family of Collinsville, Oklahoma.
