Margaret Marie Cook, age 88, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2026 at Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith Arkansas. She was born the youngest of twelve children on August 28, 1937 in Dayton, Arkansas to Arch Alvin and Birdie (Mitchel) Smith.
Margaret married the love of her life, Charles Doyle Cook, on March 26, 1955, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Together they built a life centered on love, faith, and unwavering devotion to their family. In her free time, she deeply enjoyed cooking and listening to bluegrass and gospel music, and she could often be found enjoying the outdoors tending to her garden.
Margaret’s love for her family knew no bounds, and she would do anything for those she cherished. She carried her loved ones through life’s most difficult seasons with remarkable strength and grace, enduring hardships that many could scarcely imagine, including the loss of two sons in close succession and, later, the passing of her beloved husband.
Above all else, Margaret’s heart belonged to God. She was a devoted Christian and a faithful member of Jenny Lind First Baptist Church. Her quiet strength and loving heart will be missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Margaret is survived by one son, Roger Cook; two grandchildren, Calvin and Lacy; six great-grandchildren, Hannah, Wayne, Jacob, Mckenzie, Eli, Ezra; one great-great-grandchild, Cooper Doyle; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in passing by her parents, Arch Alvin and Birdie (Mitchel) Smith; her beloved husband, Charles Doyle Cook; two sons, Charles Alvin Cook, Doyle Wayne Cook; as well as eleven siblings; Al Smith, Dorothy Mae Smith Nichols, Elmer Lee Smith, Dutch Smith, Leta Faye Smith, Inis Taylor, Myrle Dean Kerr, Verle Gene Smith, Jim Smith, Marion Smith, and Alfred Smith.
Visitation will be held from 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. on Saturday April 25, 2026 at Lewis Funeral Chapel. There will be a funeral service at 2:00p.m. on Monday, April 27, 2026 at Jenny Lind First Baptist Church, in Jenny Lind, Arkansas with Pastor Clay Kibler to officiate. Serving as pallbearers will be: Wayne Cook, Michael Berry, Jacob Berry, Blake Cherry, Andrew Madison, Raven Carlile. Honorary pallbearers will be: Troy Smith, Randy Berry.
