Margaret Dillon Obituary

Margaret Lula Dillon, age 101, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2026 at Chapel Ridge Health and Rehabilitation in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She was born January 21, 1925 in Ozark, Arkansas to the late Harley Vernon and Hallie (King) Vernon.

An avid lover of antiques, she proudly owned and operated her own store, Margaret’s Shop. She delighted in attending garage and estate sales, always searching for hidden treasures. When she wasn't antiquing, she enjoyed tending to her garden or simply spending time people-watching.

A faithful member of White Oak Presbyterian Church, Margaret dedicated many years to teaching Sunday School and occasionally sharing her musical talents by playing the piano. Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life.

Above all, Margaret cherished her family. She especially looked forward to the family’s annual trips to Branson, a beloved tradition that continued through the years. She treasured time spent with her loved ones, always welcoming them into her home with a warm meal and open arms. Margaret will be remembered as a loving, caring, and devoted mother, grandmother, and friend.

She is survived by her two children, Larry Dillon and his wife, Linda, of Fort Smith, and Marjorie Yates of Barling; three grandchildren, Joe Yates and his wife, Kari, of Ozark, Amy Bunch of Fort Smith, and Matthew Dillon of Fort Smith; four great-grandchildren, Kyndal Ann Yates of Oklahoma City, and Terren, Tavia, and Jay Bunch, all of Fort Smith; and two great-great-grandchildren, Kindred Sanchez and Beckham Benton, both of Oklahoma City.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Harley and Hallie Vernon; her beloved husband, Alfred Everett “Bunky” Dillon; her brother, Aldon Vernon; and her son-in-law, Joseph R. Yates.

Friends are welcome to pay their respects and sign the guest book during open visitation at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, and from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2026. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at Forest Park Cemetery. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Chapel Ridge Health and Rehabilitation for the love and compassionate care they provided.
