Margaret "Margie" Woods Obituary

Margaret "Margie" Ladonna Woods, age 60, passed away peacefully in her home in Fort Smith, Arkansas, on August 12, 2024. Born September 24, 1963, in Omaha, Nebraska, she was the beloved daughter of Earnest Cassell Woods Sr. and Mildred (Cole) Woods McKinney. She was Baptized into Quinn Chapel A.M.E. at a young age, where she sang in the youth choir. Margie was a proud graduate of Northside High School in 1981, and went on to attend Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma. She held a 15 year career with Whirpool Corporation and worked as a security guard for Gerber for 10+ years, until her health declined. Margie was a woman of faith, who loved to read the Bible and talk about God. She was a huge Arkansas Razorbacks fan and loved watching college and professional football. Margie also enjoyed talking to the neighborhood children and when she wasn't reading her bible, she could be found coloring. During her youth, Margie was a highly skilled "jacks" player, that took down all comers at the Fort Smith Girls Club. She will be remembered as a God fearing and devoted Christian, who will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Margie is survived by her father, Earnest Cassell Woods Sr.; siblings, Shirley McElwee of Fort Smith, AR; Kevin McKinney (Olissia) of Marion, IN; Kenneth McKinney (Kassindra) of Fort Smith, AR; Earnest Cassell Woods II of San Diego, CA; Pat Hartfield (Ed) of Texas; Mary Ann Wyatt (Anthony) of Omaha, NE; LaToya Carter of Omaha, NE; Cheryl English (Issac) of Texas; Yeana Looney of Texas; Alice Lewis of Omaha, NE; Kimberly Ward of Maryland; Earnest L. Woods (Brittney) of Tennessee; and Walter Barnes of Omaha, NE; Amir Abdul-Khaliq of Atlanta, GA; uncles, Oscar Cole Jr. of Lawton, OK; and Nathaniel Thomas (Sylvia) of Lawton, OK; and one aunt,  Vivian Cole (Harold) of Wendell, NC. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, friends and Classmates of the Class of 1981.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Oscar and Voyle Cole Sr. of Fort Smith, AR; her mother, Mildred McKinney of Fort Smith, AR; her brothers, Joseph Joseph of Omaha, NE Billy Woods of Michigan; her sister, Arina Woods of Omaha, NE; her niece, Anira Woods, and her nephew, Ryan Woods. 


Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, August 23, 2024, at River Glenn Cremation and Funeral Services, located at 1805 North A Street, in Fort Smith, AR 72901. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 24, 2024, also at the River Glenn Chapel. Interment will follow the Funeral Service at Oak Cemetery, located at 1401 S Greenwood Ave, Fort Smith, AR 72901. Pastor Stanley Whitmore is to officiate, along with Pastor Theodore Dodson. Pallbearers will be Kevin McKinney, Kenneth McKinney, Johnny Cole, Dr. Shawn Hinkle, Paul Crowder, and Dave Dodson.
