Marilyn Elizabeth Hawkins was born on March 9, 1927, in Morrilton, Arkansas, to Opal and Dan Crotts. In 1938, she moved to Mulberry, Arkansas, where she became a beloved and steadfast member of the community. She was involved in the Mulberry Civic Club, Friends of the Library, and the Crawford County Genealogy Society. Her dedication to these organizations reflected her deep love of history, learning, and the betterment of her community.
A devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Mulberry since 1949, Marilyn lived a life of service, faith, and friendship. She was the owner of Marilyn’s Beauty Shop and worked as a hairdresser well into her 70s, bringing joy to many through her work. She also spent many years employed at Meador’s Motel in Alma.
Marilyn was a proud and active member of Remy Chapter #260 of the Order of Eastern Star for over 50 years, during which she served as Worthy Matron and Deputy Grand Lecturer. She was also a dedicated Rainbow Girl Mother Advisor, mentoring generations of young women.
Well-known for her passion for genealogy, Marilyn was a local historian and resource for many. More than anything, she was a parent, grandparent, and dear friend to all. Her listening ear, kind heart, and warm conversation made everyone feel like the most important person in the room. She leaves behind a legacy of love, community, and cherished memories that will be felt for generations.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Samuel B. Hawkins III (SB); her children, Jimmy Hawkins and Judy King; her brothers, Bill Crotts, Paul Crotts, and Willie Max Crotts; and her sister, Maxine Brown Hall. She is survived by her brother, David Crotts and wife Janee of Fayetteville.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughters: Annette King of Fayetteville, Malynda McCain of Springdale, and Sheryl Wilbanks of Mulberry.
Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Leigh Medlock, Richard King, Lynette Almasri, Shannon Whitson, Jamye Hawkins, Justin Wilbanks, Sam McCain, Erin Waterman, Eric Allen, and Kyle Wilbanks. She was also blessed with 18 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Marilyn’s love, wisdom, and kindness touched every life she encountered. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
