Melissa Allison Choate-Mitch

In Loving Memory of

Melissa Choate-Mitch, 40, of Fort Smith, Arkansas, entered her heavenly home on September 2, 2024.  She was born on January 13, 1984, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Kevin and Martha (Railey) Choate.  Melissa married the love of her life, Eric Mitch, on Pensacola Beach, Florida.  She loved her boys more than anything in this world.  She was a devoted preschool teacher for many years and loved working with children.  She had a deep passion for music and loved playing the bass guitar.  Melissa loved to sing and served as worship leader at Bethel Baptist Church in Barling.  She was very creative and artistic.  She was a wonderful cook and baker.  Her family favorites were her special macaroni and cheese, her famous chocolate chip cookies, and her Mammaw’s fruitcake.  She along with her special dishes will be sorely missed at family gatherings.  Her favorite times of the year were Halloween and Christmas, and she took great joy in decorating for the holiday seasons.  She loved all animals but had a special love for cats.   Above all, she will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother.
Melissa was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, C.A. and Jackie Railey, and her paternal grandparents, Ned and Mary Choate.
Melissa is survived by her husband of 16 years, Eric Mitch; her beloved sons, Railey Mitch and Cylas Mitch; her parents, Kevin and Martha Choate; her sister, Jennifer Choate, and husband, Todd Willis, her niece and nephew, Jackie and Beau Willis, and niece and nephew, Natalie and Ethan. She is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. She will be deeply missed by a large circle of family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 9, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Lewis Funeral Chapel. The funeral service, officiated by Pastor David E. Railey, will take place on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Lewis Funeral Chapel, located at 4817 Kelly Highway, Fort Smith, Arkansas. Funeral arrangements are under the thoughtful care of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Kitties and Kanines of Fort Smith.
