Michael Clevenger Obituary

Michael James Clevenger, age 74, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 30, 2025, at Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Born on April 26, 1951, in Phoenix, Arizona, he was a beloved son of Henry James Lewis and Penny Barbara (Weber) Lewis. On August 24, 1983, Michael married the love of his life, Melinda (Oglesby) Clevenger. Together, they shared 38 years of love and happiness until her passing in January 2022. A proud U.S. Army veteran, Michael served his country for over 20 years, enlisting on August 3, 1972. His dedication to service earned him numerous medals and commendations. He retired from the Army on August 31, 1992, with honor and respect from those who knew him.

Michael was known for three passions: his military service, his unwavering love for his children, and his deep enthusiasm for playing Ultima Online (UO) gaming, where he formed lasting friendships with players across the globe. Though he raised his children with a strong, disciplined hand, his love for them was immeasurable, and his loyalty and willingness to help others were boundless.
Raised in the Catholic faith, Michael will be remembered as a great man — a devoted father, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His generosity, his love for family, and his warm heart will continue to be cherished by all who knew him.

He is survived by his six children, William and wife Amy; Tammy; Melinda and husband Terry; Billy; Patrick; and Destiny; eleven grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren; and two loving sisters, Patricia Ann (Richard) and Ramona Jean (Keith). He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Penny Lewis; his beloved wife, Melinda Clevenger; and his brother, Tommy.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Fort Smith National Cemetery at a later date, with details to follow. Cremation services are entrusted to Lewis Funeral Chapel. Michael’s family and friends will forever hold him in their hearts, grateful for the impact he made in their lives. He will be missed, but never forgotten.
