Michael Don Perkins, 78, passed away peacefully at his home in Fort Smith, Arkansas, on Friday, March 28, 2025. Born on July 8, 1946, in Fort Smith, he was the beloved son of Nellie Maye Thomson and Roscoe Wayne Perkins and the youngest of seven siblings.
Michael pursued higher education at West Ark College, John Brown University, and the University of Arkansas, where he earned his bachelor's degree. Following his studies, he worked as a chemist for the U.S. Army for many years until his retirement.
A passionate sports enthusiast, Michael dedicated his time to coaching local youth leagues, particularly soccer and baseball, and took great pride in coaching his own son alongside other young athletes. Michael will be remembered as a quiet, intelligent man who left a lasting impact on those who knew him.
He is survived by his cherished partner of 12 years, Deb Berglund; his son, Chris Perkins and wife Odette of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; his grandson, Roscoe Perkins of Philadelphia; his sister, Lea Muck of Fort Smith, Arkansas; his niece, Sonna Brown of Alabama and his nephew Mark Fortner.
