Nora Christina Sims, age 83, passed away peacefully at her home on April 1, 2025. She was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas, on May 28, 1941, to Harry and Susie (Bates) Larson. Nora was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of everyone who knew her.
A proud graduate of Fort Smith High School, Nora worked in various roles throughout her life, including as a factory employee, daycare provider, and personal cook. In 1961, she married her first husband, Jon Grimm, and later, in 1973, found love again when she married Philip Sims. Nora’s creativity and talent shone through in her sewing and crafting skills, and she had a deep passion for gardening. Her love of life was also evident in her enjoyment of attending wrestling events. Known for her great sense of humor, Nora often brought joy to family and friends with her stories, jokes, and laughter. Her loving heart and caring nature will be greatly missed.
Nora was preceded in death by her husband, Philip Sims; her parents, Susie and Harry Larson; her son, Charles R. Grimm; her three siblings, Irene Albertson, Alene Hambright, and Geraldine Larson; and her son-in-law, Damon Shelton.
She leaves behind a legacy of love through her surviving family, including her five children: Carole Grimm Shelton, Daniel Sims, Joshua Sims, Rebekah Sims, and Phillis Reding; her 15 grandchildren: Jordan, Jennifer, Harley, Dakota, Rini, Dezmon, Jess, Olivia, Grace, Kieran, Trista, Jessie, Jody, Ruth, and Rosie; and her 21 great-grandchildren: Kayla, Kallen, Lily, Zander, Eland, Atlas, Oxiiaz, Omavii, Sophia, Athena, Carmen, Cassie, Jasmyn, Hayden, Riley, Scarlett, Ester, Greyson, June, Ezra, and Jessie.
A viewing will be held on Monday, April 7, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Lewis Funeral Chapel, with a committal service to follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Fort Smith National Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Stanley Hambright, Ryan Jeffries, Eugene Deuster, Kieran Jennings, Daniel Sims, Chance Hambright, Joshua Sims, and Rebekah Sims.
