R. Charles was born to Olean and Fannie James on March 15, 1957 in Forrest City, Arkansas. He professed a faith in God at an early age and became a member of Mt. Zion CME church in Fort Smith.
Charles was a man with a talent for fixing things around the house. He loved working on and keeping a beautiful yard. He liked collecting items and refurbishing furniture.
Charles married Cynthia Henderson of Fort Smith, Arkansas and to this union of 46 years, they had two daughters.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one sister, Helen Delt; one brother, Jerome James; brothers in law, Donald Delt and Johnny Eubanks; as well as his mother in law, Rose Huddleston.
Cherishing his loving memories are his wife Cynthia; his daughters, Yalanda James Walker (Andre) and Stacie James (Travis); granddaughters, Amiyah, Saniyh, Torie; grandson, Travis Jr.; Brother, Olean James Jr (Alberta) of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Sisters, Vivian Williams of Detroit, Michigan, Rossie Eubanks of Spiro, Oklahoma, Ola Ivery (Curtis) of Detroit, Michigan, and Lillie Bray of Fort Smith, Arkansas; as well as a host of Nieces, Nephews, relatives, and Friends.
A memorial service will be held in Charles honor at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2026 at Lewis Funeral Chapel. All services are under the thoughtful care of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
