Rebecca Ann (Cowger) Kilgore

Rebecca Ann Cowger Kilgore, 94 of Barling, Arkansas went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus on January 13, 2025. Rebecca was born on December 10, 1930 in Chickalah AR. to the late Neil B. Cowger and Edna Heffington Cowger.

She was a homemaker and in her earlier years, she worked in the family grocery store businesses at the Big D on the corner of Greenwood and Dodson Avenue in Fort Smith and Kilgore‘s Friendly Corner Grocery on N. 6th St. in Fort Smith. Her hobbies and passions included her collection of lighthouses, going to and having garage sales, watching HGTV and the Food Network, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, listening to her favorite preachers and gospel quartets and you could always find her on a nice day out, sitting in her swing or picking up sticks in the yard. She was well known for her famous fudge, that all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren could devour in one sitting.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 63 years, Wiley Kilgore, two sisters, Corinne Anderson, and Mary Belcher, and one granddaughter, Michelle Brewer.

Survivors include her three sons, Bob Kilgore of Barling, Arkansas, Larry Kilgore of Muldrow, Oklahoma, daughter in law Norma Hance of Muldrow Oklahoma, Mike and Media Kilgore of Chester, Arkansas, and one daughter, Lisa Kilgore-Dollar of Barling, Arkansas. One sister Betty Young of Fort Worth, Texas and many nieces and nephews. Eight grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and four step-great grandchildren.

An internment will occur at Fort Smith National Cemetery on Wednesday Feb 5th at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St Jude Children’s Hospital in honor of Rebecca’s favorite charity.
