Roy Gene Releford “Nutty” was born February 6, 1950 in Muldrow, Oklahoma. The son of Ocie and Emma Releford, Roy was a member of New Life Baptist church in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Roy graduated from Roland High School and later moved to Flint, Michigan, where he began his career with General Motors. After 30 years of dedicated service, he retired from General Motors and moved back to Muldrow.
Roy was a very kind-hearted man, who never turned away anyone in need. He loved talking with others and cherished the time he spent with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Releford; two daughters, Danisha Richardson (James) of Davison, Michigan and Serena Smith of Fort Smith, Arkansas; son, Samuel K. Smith of Manvel, Texas; two sisters, Barbara Richardson of Roland and Maxine Collins of Muldrow; brother, James Releford of Muldrow; nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith, Arkansas. The funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 16, 2026 at Trinity Methodist Church in Muldrow, Oklahoma. Burial will take place following the services at Center Point Cemetery in Redland, Oklahoma. Pastor Xavier Griffin is to officiate, with pallbearers being Terry McElwee, Kendell Releford, Rick Releford, James Releford Jr., Chauncey Smith, Samuel K. Smith, Jeremy Releford, and Elton McElwee. Honorary pallbearers are Torrey Releford and James Collins. Services are entrusted to Lewis Funeral Chapel.
