Scotty Remler Obituary

Scotty Dale Remler, age 86, passed away on September 23, 2024, at Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Born December 24, 1937, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, he was a beloved son of Albert Remler and Ethel Oglesby. Scotty held a longtime career with the Sebastian County Tax Assessors Office, starting in 1977 as a Deputy Appraiser. For the latter half of his employment, he served as the Sebastian County Tax Assessor for eight years, up until his retirement. He was an avid Razorback fan, who loved calling the Hogs. Scotty was also an accomplished member of many organizations, including the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Arkansas Assessor Association, the Fort Smith Chamber of Commerce, the International Association of Assessing Officers, and the Razorback Foundation. A man of faith, he was a dedicated member of Rye Hill Baptist Church in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Scotty spent the last 16 years of his life as a cherished resident of Mercy Crest, and he will be dearly missed by a host of family and friends.
Scotty is survived by his two sons, Scott Remler of Muldrow, Oklahoma; and Stephen Smith and wife Pam of Fort Smith, Arkansas; one daughter, Cherre Nietert and husband Rod of Caulksville, Arkansas; two granddaughters, LaReina Mathers and Lindsey Pannell; three grandsons, Zachary Mathers, Taylor Nietert, and Jeremy Nietert; and seven great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Remler; three brothers, Leo, Luther, and Albert Remler; and two sisters, Dot Fraser and Helen Krause.

A Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at Lewis Funeral Chapel, located at 4817 Kelley Hwy in Fort Smith, Arkansas 72904. A Graveside Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Kersey Cemetery in Caulksville, Arkansas. Revered Bill Vanmeter will officiate. Pallbearers will be Rickey Mathers, Jimmy Pannell, and Rod, Taylor, Reese, and Rhett Nietert. Honorary Pallbearers will be the devoted staff of Mercy Crest. Services are entrusted to Lewis Funeral Chapel.
