Shirley June Cox, age 91, entered her heavenly home on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Chapel Ridge Nursing Home in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Born May 28, 1933, she was a beloved daughter of Ova Frank Ficker and Nina (Cox) Ficker. Shirley spent her days as a dutiful homemaker, who enjoyed canning, sewing, crocheting, and gardening in her free time. She was a woman of Christian faith, who was always willing to help anyone in need. Shirley was incredibly kind, and she spent 3 years volunteering to help the elderly learn to knit and crochet. Her favorite hobbies included journaling in her many notebooks, chatting with friends and family, listening to country music, and eating ice cream. Shirley will be remembered as an adventurous and determined woman, who loved her family and friends dearly.
Shirley is survived by her two children, Danny Cox and wife Rainey of Mulberry, AR; and Pam Sutton and husband Leroy of Mountainburg, AR; along with grandchildren, Kelley and Brandon Jones, Karen, and Shawn Mundy, Kimberly and James Schneider, Chris and Stephanie Whitfield, and Danielle and Derek Rowland Brooklyn and Donnie Meaders; great-grandchildren Dakota Whitfield, Haley and Chance Johnson, Brayden Jones, Makayla and Ty Callahan, Logan Mundy, Luke Mundy, Ella Mundy, Jolie Canada, Jesse Canada, Jared Canada, Jenna Crouch, Noella Rowland, Maci Cantrell, Weston Cantrell, and Lexi Cantrell; and great-great-grandchildren, Boen Johnson, Barrett Johnson, and Ira Thompson; her sister Sharon Kalspian; and many great nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents Ova and Nina, husband George Cox, brother Kenneth Ficker, daughter Gayla Harrison, and her grandson Wesley Ray.
A Viewing will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at Lewis Funeral Chapel, located at 4817 Kelley Hwy in Fort Smith, AR 72904. Visitation will take place also on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Lewis Funeral Chapel. A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, a Pope Cemetery, located at 8550 Pope Rd, Mulberry, AR 72947.
